• Rings: tell us the size if known, whether the ring has been resized and whether any stones have been replaced.
• Necklaces: show the complete chain, pendant and clasp, not only the front of the pendant.
• Earrings: photograph both pieces and the backs included with them. Mention missing components from the beginning.

What informs a Cartier jewelry assessment?

We look at the specific item rather than compare it only with a similar online listing. Useful information includes:

• Design and reference: collection, model or reference information from available documents.
• Size and material: marked size, chain length and metal details, where known.
• Stones and settings: your knowledge of the stones, including replacements or additions.
• Condition and changes: wear, damage, engraving, resizing, repairs or other alterations.
• Included items: box, purchase documents, service records, backs, tools and other accessories.

Use a plain surface, good light and no filters. Photograph the complete item from the front, back and sides. Add close views of accessible signatures, hallmarks, size markings, clasps and settings, together with any wear or damage.

Photograph documents and accessories separately. Do not force a mechanism or dismantle a piece for a photograph. If a marking is difficult to reach, tell us. Send identifying details through the private appraisal form rather than posting them publicly.

There is no need to arrange polishing or repairs simply to submit a request. Show the current condition and explain work already carried out.
